The name means” THe Flourishing.” Florence is considered to be the birth place of the Italian Renaissance and Florentine design. In the historic quarter of Santa Croce there is a the Basilica of the Holy Cross which dates from 1294. In one of the small cloisters there is a monument to Florence Nightingale who was born in and named for Florence. This cross was inspired by the magnificent high alter in the Basilica. This cross is a festive design whose inspiration came from scrollwork on a beautiful iron gate at the Cathedral of St. Germaine de Pres in the sector of that name in Paris, France. It incorporates what appears to be a holly design with an unfolding lily. Deanne found it to be very elegant and expanded the single motif into a four-armed cross. Makes a great ornament. His intricate carving on the Angeby stone reads:”" Ragnfrid had this stone erected in Memory of Bjorn, God and God’s Mother rest his soul. They became a trade item with the fur companies; in 1792, one could obtain 2 small crosses for a single medium sized beaver pelt. These were usually Latin or double armed croses. Soldier’s Rosary or Decade Ring

An”Ave” was said for each of the knobs and an “Our Father” for the bezel( center of the ring). They were often used during periods of Catholic persecution, and are also know as the soldiers rosaries because they were often taken into battle, most notably during WWI.
