Mokume Gane earrings with freshwater pearl accents.
Mokume Gane means wood grain in Japanese. Artist Kara Raymond begins her process by layering 16-22 sheets of metal, creating a stack approximately 2” thick. Layers are clamped together and placed in a furnace, causing them to fuse together. She then hot forges this sheet on an anvil. The unique patterns are developed by carving down through the layers, rolling them thinner to reveal the designs. This process is repeated many times to create the final patterns. The lovely soft brown Keishi pearl strand is accented by one of Kara’s many layered Mokume Gane pendants, the swirls and whorls of the different metals are mesmerizing. Coordinated earrings display a larger, more open pattern, a freshwater pearl topping off the design
